Internal Title: Research Scientist II
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Scientist II to join our dynamic xRNA therapeutics team at our Cambridge site. This role is pivotal in establishing and advancing our oligonucleotide synthesis laboratory. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in synthesizing, purifying, and characterizing therapeutic oligonucleotides, as well as designing novel nucleoside phosphoramidites
Key Responsibilities:
• Synthesize, purify, and characterize therapeutic oligonucleotides using automated oligonucleotide synthesizers such as Shasta, K&A, or Mermade
• Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for synthesis, processing, and purification of therapeutic oligonucleotides to ensure reproducibility.
• Design and synthesize novel nucleoside phosphoramidites for incorporation into therapeutic oligonucleotides

About the Role

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline with at least 2 years of experience in organic chemistry, particularly in nucleoside & oligonucleotide synthesis, purification and characterization. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with using automated SPOS (solid phase oligonucleotide synthesis) for therapeutic oligonucleotide synthesis
  • Proficiency with purifying, analyzing and characterizing therapeutic oligonucleotides with LC/HRMS, RP-HPLC, AEX-HPLC, SEC-HPLC and UV-vis analytics.
  • Basic understanding of RNA therapeutics and their role in biology
  • Be a team player prepared to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

Desirable Requirements:

  • Prior experience with oligonucleotide bioconjugation is a plus


The salary for this position is expected to range between $73,500-$136,500/year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
